A great School that never skips off my memory despite my old age. They say that memory weakens as you get old, That may be true but in my case, not for Islamia High School where I started my life’s journey. Great teachers, highly dedicated to their profession. As they say in Punjabi and in English too ‘they don’t make them anymore’. I graduated two years after the country was partitioned. Can someone tell me if the building is of the same size or they have added onto it. Then there was a smaller building at the right across a big sewer (may be the sewer is covered now) where we were first brought in from the Primary School in the form of a procession to start our education at the High. I wonder if that building is still there at the same location. Now some words about me: After graduating from High School, I went to Murray College for my pre-engineering. In those days Murray College was the only college in town. When I finished my F.Sc. at Murray, the Anjaman Islamia, who managed Islamia High School was starting a new College by the name ‘Jinnah Islamia College’. The highest degree they offered was B.A. I got enrolled there. We were only 7 or 8 students . Now let me give you a hint who I am! I was the only one who graduated in their first batch of students. It was not a very flattering result but unfortunately, that‘s the way it was. From then on our family moved to Lahore where, after receiving my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Mogulpura, I went to the United States where I received my M.S. and a Ph.D. in Engineering. I taught at the University and later worked for the State. I am retired now and for most of the time stay at home and reminisce my old past at Sialkot.
